Changing from a crib to a big bed should be an exciting transition for you and your toddler.

It should be scary or overwhelming.

The process of transitioning to a big kid bed is unique for every child.

Some kids switch as early as 18 months but others need more time.

The most important sign that your toddler is ready to change is that he or she tries to climb out of the crib.

You must take into account some things to ease the transition for your toddler:

  • Avoid making the switch while there are other major changes going on in her life – such as a new sibling at home, potty-training, or first day in daycare
  • Be sure your house is really babyproof and safe, take into account that she will be able to go out from the bed alone
  •  Be prepared to put in more time at bedtime –  your toddler will take a lot of excursions: You put your child to bed and she comes out. You put him back in bed and she comes back out…
  •  Be patient, and don’t rush this very important transition
