Between 19 and 21 months, toddlers begin to develop exciting innovative ways of playing. Although they can’t name colors or shapes, they knew that things are different and they love sorting them.
When he is playing on his own, he sorts the blocks by colors or the different kind of toys (they separate cars from planes, for example).
This sorting behavior lays the groundwork for more sophisticated problem solving later in life since so much of abstract thinking depends on our ability to compare and organize things to help make sense of the world.
